Prometrium (Generic)

Generic Progesterone is a female hormone important for the regulation of ovulation and menstruation.

Generic Progesterone is used to cause menstrual periods in women who have not yet reached menopause but are not having periods due to a lack of progesterone in the body. Progesterone is also used to prevent overgrowth in the lining of the uterus in postmenopausal women who are receiving estrogen hormone replacement therapy.

Swallow Generic Prometrium whole. Do not crush, chew or break this medication. Generic Prometrium is generally taken once daily before bed. Contact your doctor for the precise instructions that apply to you. Dosage of this medication may change during treatment depending on the severity of your condition and the progression of your illness.

Inform your doctor and surgeon that you are taking this medication before you go in for any surgical procedure or medical test. Do not stop taking this medication without first speaking to your doctor, as suddenly halting treatment may worsen your condition.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

• sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
• sudden headache, confusion, pain behind the eyes, problems with vision, speech, or balance;
• fast or pounding heartbeats;
• chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
• unusual or unexpected vaginal bleeding;
• migraine headache;
• nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet;
• fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
• a breast lump; or
• symptoms of depression (sleep problems, weakness, mood changes).

Always read the ingredients before taking this or any other medication to ensure that there are no elements that may elicit an allergic reaction. Generic Prometrium may contain peanut oil.

Before taking Generic Prometrium, consult your doctor if you have a history of any of the following medical conditions:
blood clots, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, congestive heart failure, liver problems, kidney disease, asthma, migraine headaches, depression, bleeding in the brain, breast cancer, cervical cancer, cancer of the uterus, spontaneous vaginal bleeding, lupus, heart attack, stroke, coronary artery disease, obesity, seizures, or a missed abortion.

Do not smoke while taking this medication. Avoid direct sunlight, prolonged sun exposure sunlamps and tanning beds when taking Generic Prometrium, as skin may become more sensitive as a result of taking this treatment. Wear sunscreen and protective clothing when in direct sun light to reduce the risk of melisma.

Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant before taking this medication. Do not use Generic Prometrium when breastfeeding.

There may be other drugs that can interact with Generic Progesterone. Tell your doctor about all medications you use. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.

Do not take more than your recommended dosage. Take missed doses as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next treatment.

Keep Generic Prometrium in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Dispose of any unused medication past the point of expiry. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
